Just out of curiousity, how many people on WP are computer hackers?

I'm wondering just how good aspies are with computers compared to the normal population.

Well, I HAVE hacked before, Hardware and software. I have even CRACKED before!

Still, you can be good with computers, and not hack.

I had a "friend" one time, who was a FAMOUS hacker. He turned in a "friend" of his, mitnick. Anyway, Mitnick apparently knows more but the guy I am referring to was really not that good with computers. He merely tried to trick others into giving him passwords by using things like Trojans.

I am a beginner Ethical Hacker. I will only hack for good reasons such as to find weaknesses so that I can improve security. I am not a script kitty, they are not hackers they just claim to be.

I can hack as far as tinkering and writing/modifying programs. However, if the definition of hacking involves breaking into other computers, I cannot hack my way out of a wet paper bag even with the instructions written on the inside ;-)

in elementary school i hacked the security of the macs that they had. they found out, had to reformat the drive and reload. the librarian, who was very arrogant when it came to computers thought the security software was perfect, and thought i had been told the password. in reality, i just guessed it.

all i wanted was to change the wallpaper!

It's hard to say what hacking is in the modern world, isn't it?

Back when we first bandied the word around, I worked on an insurance company's systems: nightly updates of multi-reel tape files.

Occasionally, some hardware glitch or software problem would leave bad - or no - data where there ought to be some, and the update would crash.

I'd read the core dump, sit down at a card punch, rattle off a deck of cards, run them through the machine and off it would go again. Hacking? Perhaps.

We wrote self-modifying COBOL programs to try and squeeze more functionality into a 32K partition. Hacking?

Even neater self-modifying assembler programs to diagnose and fix problems?

Here it is 35 years later. The net is the norm. I spend my time crunching code of one sort or another, still striving to master the art of delivering clean, reuseable, maintainable, extensible and - above all - useful results with the minimum of effort.

Working in the world of computer security there is not such thing as ethical hacking and will remind everyone out there it is illegal. Please be warned the penalties for doing so are quite severe.
The costs you guys impose on industry are quite large probably running into the multi billions of dollars, which means higher costs and lost jobs. Don't think you won't be caught because you will be, it's just a matter of time.

42. There are 42 people on WP who are computer hackers.

Also, your second sentence is COMPLETELY unrelated to your initial question.

This thing about hacking and illegality is getting out of hand.

I know how to hack but I know it's not good 'cuz it's violating other's privacy and I,myself get annoyed when someone is invading my privacy..

I can (or could hack -- I am out of the business now) but I never did. I respect property. I am not a barbarian savage.

Hacking doesn't mean illegal activity, that is just implied. It effectively means improvising.

I think you are referring to cracking, not hacking. They are two very different things. And even cracking can be done ethically and legally in the context of penetration testing in order to improve security.

They employ white hat hackers and crackers.

I was wondering what the percentage is of computer hackers who are aspies compared to NT hackers. How is this confusing?

I'm a little dissappointed that they moved this thread to the computer forum. Of course there are way more hackers who visit this part of WP. I'm not too surprised that 50% of the people here hack.

I would not want anyone reading my emails. I wonder how many aspie hackers would hack into say...facebook or something to see what their "friends" are up to? It seems likely that shyer types would "investigate" social forums like this. I'm not judging, just saying that it's like looking through people's trash and you can't really get to know someone by doing that.
