Neither is better. It's the operating system that makes the difference.

Don't know if there's actually a "better," just a preference.

Personally, I don't like Macs--never have.

We use all 3 here.

To us, each OS is like tools in a toolbox.

If we want to do office work or get down
and dirty in a gaming match, we use the
windows box, if we need to edit video/audio,
we use the apple box, if we need a voicemail/PBX
or web or ftp server, we use linux.

Tools.

Box.

If the question is buying specific hardware... I'd rather run my Linux on a Motorola CPU. (Personal taste/familiarity.)

That said, the cheapest way to run Linux is on any Intel/AMD/etc clone - the high-volume junk that is still based on the 8080 processor. Why spend money on expensive Apple (or Microsoft) proprietary stuff? A computer is a tool. A hammer doesn't need an ornately carved handle or a built-in searchlight.

Macs are now PCs. Intel pretty much made sure of that with their only x86 CPU which was predominantly used for the PC market.

OS X, because it is UNIX and so has a reasonable command-line environment, as well as more built-in tools for getting work done (ssh, compilers/development environments, vim, all the usual UNIX stuff). I feel like OS X is much closer to being a complete system out-of-the-box than Windows: it has a decent web browser, an excellent mail/news reader, and a solid command line with better tools. Windows comes with Solitaire. Also, Windows is horribly demanding on computer resources. 4GB of RAM, a 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo, and Windows 7 64-bit was still too laggy on my computer.

Linux all the way!

If I were forced to choose between the two, I would rather not have a computer OS X is just as crap as Windows.
