What music (if any) do you listen to while programming?
I like relaxing or uplifting trance.
Or techno!
I love the social network mix, its a brilliant sound track to code to.

Both really help getting into the zone.

Mostly trance here as well.
Occassionally ebm or happy hardcore (house).

When I am working on complex algorithms or need to block loud environmental noise, I prefer fast, energetic songs that help me focus.

Music that I use during work is very different from music that I listen to for the music itself. When listen-music (for example classical piano music) plays, then I cannot distract myself from the music to do the programming.

Coding music does not draw my attention.
It works like fuel to keep me running.

Bach organ music.
When I'm really involved I have his complete organ works playing in a (rather long) loop.
It's brain food, I tells ya! :lol:

When I am programming I listen to maybe 2 or 3 songs on a loop. Usually it ends up being a few Talking Heads songs or something similar... needs to have that 'layered' and repetitive feel to it.

I don't program, but for what its worth when I am studying I have no music playing, or for that matter any other distracting media and anything within my peripheral vision MUST be exactly as it should be.

I need complete silence when designing object models, but when implementing those object models I sometimes listen to music without lyrics (usually jazz, classical, post-rock, or IDM).

Yeah, so seconded... though 2 songs might be a bit too much... I programmed for like a month listening to nothing but Jimmy Eat World's Lucky Denver Mint once...

I can ignore environmental or any other noise, but if i like a music, it slows down my thinking.

I usualy listen instrumental music, no lyric, (some time classic, some time techno) this help me to remain in hyperfocus and to not be disturb by surrounding environment. But I don't really listen it, I'm in hyperfocus...
