it makes more sense when the motherboard has 3 memory channels in 3 or 6 slots to enable the parallel use of all 3 channels as found in (some) DDR3 boards.

That, and for compatibility reasons, Win7 is being sold largely in the 32-bit platform and not the 64-bit platform. Since you have the 4GB limit for 32-bits, why put more than 3GB RAM in?

Sadly, this is very counterproductive to moving EVERYONE into the 64-bit OS realm. Phase out the 32-bit OS faster and hardware makers will ensure their products and drivers are 64-bit compliant sooner rather than later (if ever).

If you intend to use Windows Vista together with heavy games, I can't see any limit on how much RAM you would like to have in there.

I think you would be more happy with 6 GB more RAM than going for Windows 7 if you asked me.

Might want to wait for the new DX 11 cards instead...

DX11 will be on vista, and as for 7, if you can get it at academic prices, do it, but it really is not worth 200 IMO.

really depends on what you want to do with it varies. Not that I consider myself a techhead, 'cause I am by no means, but in my case I'm looking to upgrade my desktop so I can record stuff from the TV so I know at the least I'll need a TVWonder chip and several cables... actually maybe one of the "tech heads" I've seen reply here already, are there any cables I can run between my computer(I forget which port) and the digital co-ax connection on my set(if that's even possible to do)? I don't know what to advise for gaming purposes.
