Alright fixed the issue. It was a problem I've been having with Blank Memorx CD-R's for a while. Bought a new thing of TDK based blank CD-R''s. Burnt a copy of Ubuntu Live on a new disc and it worked. Currently typing this message from the dell right now. Thanks Fuzzy and Cloudwalker

You should md5sum the iso itself. Then run the check cd function when you boot from the newly burned disk. It wouldnt hurt to md5sum the burned cd too, as you suggest.

I tend to go the whole hog. If it's a critical CD, I burn it, reload it as an ISO image (often via another drive) and straight diff it with the original. A pretty enormous waste of time, but so what - it leaves me pretty certain that the disk is perfect.
