I've still got a backups of some Fortran programs I wrote thirty years ago for a Cray computer on paper tape. I wonder if I can get a USB paper tape reader?

I saw tape for the last time in about '78 running a hoist-control system over a row of tanks used for electro-plating. The tape likely survived after I left there, but I have always wondered how the reader ever held up against all the acid in the air!

I got some kind of scan pop-up here at WP yesterday ...

I just got it again, but this time it closed my browser and waited for me to click "Continue" or "Close". I used the Task Manager to shut it down, then came back here.

McCafee? :coffee: Sorry, can't resist.

You mean you've installed McAfee but it still let the trojan through in the first place? And then you manual scan your harddisk afterwards? I've to wonder if it can actually detect the thing in the manual scan, why isn't it catch in the real-time scan? Maybe it's time to consider another virus scanner.

I already had McCafee, before this happened. Almost a full year prior in fact. I scanned over again to make sure.

doordoctor did not fully explain. When you mouse over a link, down in the left hand corner of your browser it shows the actual destination. Make sure it matches your expectation.

I'll show you. Roll your mouse over this url that follows. Then compare with the lower corner of your browser. http://www.wrongplanet.net

You dont always have to do it, but its recommended when you visit your banks web site, paypal... or following links sent in emails. Take a critical eye to the result. You dont want to click on something like for instance.http://paypal.youraccount.com because they'll try to trick you with something that looks legit.

Fuzzy, yes im well aware of that, looking in corner of browser, but the messages that OP are talking about are not in the form of a link, other then click yes, click no or the X in corner of the system error message, so theres no real way to really check to see other then look at the browser window url, and even then with that, i have seen it happen on legit sites, such as youtube and FACEBOOK
