If you have windows....

Start, run, cmd - starts a DOS window
ipconfig /all - will give you (among other things) your MAC address

there's other ways to get this as well, but this is the easiest...

Maybe I was missing something, but last week I was trying to get to a command shell in a limping Vista, and failed. Is "Run" tucked away somewhere more obscure?

Run is hidden by Default in Vista and Windows 7. You can access command prompt (cmd) in the Start Menu.

How does one go about un-hiding "Run"?
... and ...
Does it have any short-cut key combo?
... and ...
IIRC I could find no trace of it in the fiddly, scrolly, uncollapsy, collapsy start menu. Maybe it had been removed from there by the user.

Right Click On the Taskbar and Click Properties. Then Click the Start Menu Tab and Click Customize. Check The Run Command Box In the Customize Start Menu Window.

or you can just right click the taskbar, go to toolbars, and click "address bar". It puts the address bar on the taskbar and you can run commands right there from the taskbar (and also search your computer, search internet, or type in a web address)

Ah! Thanks. I'm rubbish on remembering shortcuts. I think I was trying ALT/F2, but that's Linux.

Another possibility may be that your Windows is being used by hackers as a bot net server. But I think that is only if you leave it on all the time and it slows down A LOT for no reason on this site. If your wifi router has blinking lights, look at them when the computer is off, and if they blink the same amount then turn it off, and if you can't do any of those things then unplug it and have it set up right.

If you use the internet as a telly then sure it is possible to watch that much especially if you set it to High Quality or "HD" or Fullscreen.
160GB is a lot, since most DVDs are 4 GB sometimes
8 GB. If you have no telly because of a tax then it would
probably be cheaper to either get one and pay, or watch
smaller videos on the internet.

I'm still on XP...sorry 'bout that...;)

One thing that works in XP (may still work in newer OS's, I dunno)

Windows Key+r - gives a run window.
I use it at work on occasion.

FailKey + R has worked since Windows 4.0.950. I mean WinKey +R
