my favorite daydream is a ball-shaped empty ship somewhere close to the sun. just sitting and enjoying the view. emptiness is calming and sun is fairly warm and interesting. i like it better than planets.

I voted "science" because it looks to be the most interesting. Presuming ships serve specific functions, here is what I had issue with in the options....

Colonist - Too boring. Maybe fine if I wanted to settle down someplace exotic and be able to build a new life, but if I want to "explore" it's not much of an option.

Medical - Not into medicine. Only go where needed. No real exploration.

Commerce - Stuck doing established trade routes? No thank you.

Industrial - See Commerce.

Military - Not attractive if all it did was patrol and fight. If it was a military/exploration type of mission, I'd consider this.

i cant think of any logical scenarios where a spaceship would be fun.. Wormholes, now thats the ticket.

I bet that most of the aliens that left tier planet have evolved to live in space by now. In order to do that, they would have to be the size of a planet in order to hold an ecosytem to sustain itself in the billions of years between stops at other planets and stars.

If you want the awe and adventure of outerspace travel, you should wish you were an animal. Everything is new and exciting to them.

Theoretically, if somebody used higgs bozons to remove the mass from thier matter, could they sit on a flashlight and ride the light?

Theyd probably be smeared across the universe, though..

and we'd float to the top of the atmosphere >:/ unless the millions of tons of sunlight were holding you down....

or if you took in a breath of non-massless air would your lungs be unable to stop expanding fast enough and stretch out hard til you pop?

Darn it, I don't think there's enough of us space pirates yet to even crew a ship. Come on people, don't you want to wear eyepatches and have peg legs and steal some space booty?

Very interesting wildlife experiences to be had on that vessel.

Whoa, looks like the science vessel would have an Aspie majority. :D

I'm trying to figure out if that would be awkward or awesome. :?

I don't know about the rest, but I beg to differ.

I would rather have a space transporter that can carry passengers at superluminal speeds for intergalactic, -stellar, and -planetary tours. Naturally I would like to be among the tourists, but if I'd be the attendant or the pilot, that's cool with me.

If you made anything massless, it would move through space at the speed of light, following a lightlike trajectory, as all objects move through spacetime at the speed of light, with most of our motion constrained to be through the temporal axis, rather than the spatial ones.
