yeah, kinda interesting thinking about how the older, more superstitious civilizations would have viewed it.

Yes, I do have a DeviantArt, it is at.... http://demonabyss10.deviantart.com/
Things like that get remembered, and used in later stories. It was 1,500 light years away.
Ended the ice age as in causing climate warming or coinciding with the end of the icea age. Do you have any references to scientific papers on the matter?

A prevailing theory on the sun and global climate is that sunspot activity affects how much cosmic radiation reaches the earth. Stronger sun activity prevents this and changes weather patterns.
Are there any books with pretty pictures that go with this fairy tale?

7 TeV collisions are on track, successful circulation of both 3.5 TeV beams set a new record for accelerator energy, incidentally.
That is better. You are referring to cosmic rays which do have an effect on cloud formation, which in turn affects weather and climate. For example see: -The Chilling Stars- by Henrik Svensmark

No one from the time was writing papers.
What is known, the blast wave hit 9,500 years ago, It starts by blowing away the Ozone layer, bombarding the surface with X Rays, Gamma Rays, and leaving the world open to the Sun's UV.
From a deep ice age, sea level down 150 meters, five kilometers of ice over much of the northern land mass. there comes a sudden rise in sea level, and about 8,000 years ago the Sahara turns from long established grassland, lakes, streams, some trees, with old species of animals that had survived a long time, to the desert we know, which also covered the middle east, Caspian Depression, Gobi grasslands,
From 18,000 years ago sea level had been stable, Paintings from Tasilli show cattle and carts in the Sahara region. In a thousand years sea level is near current levels, and desert has spread over long green lands.
The science I have read came from the Russians, who studied the Greenland ice cap, and dated the supernova and the effects caused then. Russian Acadmy of Science, Formation of Isotopes from Gamma Ray burst. I think it was in Scientific American.
Closer to home The Crab Nebula is in historic time, and marks the end of the Little Ice Age, and a warming that has produced expanded farming, and a food surplus that marks the start of the current population boom.
For all the study of the Sun no one has shown that it's energy changes. No, the Sun is 1.03%, or 0.02%, brighter/dimmer this year.
Cooling can come from several causes, Cosmic Dust, which as we pass through patches decrease the amount of sun light, or volcanic, meteors, that cloak the Earth for a while.
What we can know is there were waves of ice, warmings, and the BTU change was huge.
Cooling is fairly easy to explain, we have observed Krakatoa, Tunguska, which did cause minor cooling. The events of 22,000 years ago changed a very warm world, sea level seven meters higher, into five kilometers of ice in a short time. In a few thousand years a lot of heat vanishes from the system.
It becomes stable about 18,000 years ago, with sea level 150 meters lower than now. That is constant, till Vela-X, and then we have a large amount of heat added to the system.
No proposed Solar Cycle matches the waves of ice, nor the suddeness of it. Volcanic activity, dust and greenhouse gasses do not fit the pattern. Cooling is easier to explain than warming.
Vela-X was life in the microwave. It is coming back, the Russian paper was about Isotopes of Berillium that were found in the Greenland Ice Cap, that took high energy to form. It did connect them to supernovas, and was used to date Vela-X.
Our recent history, 50,000 years, shows the end of a long ice age, over 100,000 years, a short 8,000 warm period, another wave of ice, another short but very warm period, then the last wave 22,000 years ago, which reverses in Vela-X time, forms deserts, and leads to us.
Historic records show a minor change, in 705 the Black Sea and Nile froze, The little ice age has a lot to do with Vikings, too cold to grow crops, which reverses about 1500, Crab Nebula forms, which leads to our very strange period of climate, 500 years of warm, good crops almost every year, except 1815, and a fast growing population.
We are in the third interglaciel period of an ice age that reachs back 150,000 years. The two before this lasted 5,000 years, this one has lasted 10,000. The last two times sea level reached this level we slid back into ice.
A 26,000 year cycle with sudden change does fit the pattern. The mile wide crater in Mauritania does start the last ice age, and Vela-X ends it. The cycle back, Barringer in Arizona, another in India, 52,000 years ago, and on back.
All of our major climate changes have been sudden.
26,000 years seems a constant, Supernovas random, and the major extinctions fit with crossing the Galactic Plane, every 35 million years. That is where we are now, the same point in the cycle that two back killed the big lizards.
All of the atomic weapons could not make a crater a mile across, everything points to we will get several, and most in the ocean.
One day the fire will reach into space, then it will get dark, then cold. There will be no sun, moon, stars. The air will be full of ash, then it will start snowing black.
When it settles, the Sixth Sun will shine on a new age.
A prevailing theory on the sun and global climate is that sunspot activity affects how much cosmic radiation reaches the earth. Stronger sun activity prevents this and changes weather patterns.
You'll find that Milankovitch cycles are normally invoked to account for glacials/ interglacials. I'll admit I haven't read too much about sunspot activity in this regard, only its 11 year cyclicity in relation to influence on satellite communications.
No two seem to agree about Milankovitch. We have been in a cooling cycle for 6,000 years, since Vela-X, with a warming post Crab Nebula.
Sun Spot Cycles, Milankovitch, do not account for the mile wide holes in the ground, spaced 26,000 apart. They do not account for the sudden onset and then vanishing of waves of ice.
Sometimes the ice stays for a long time, sometimes it does not.
Milankovitch had to resort to millions of years ago to tie his view to an unknown history of ice ages, no one has done better recently, nor explained the most recent. The farther back you go the more random the data.
Milankovitch says nothing about the K-T Boundry, or the eight sudden extinctions before then.
He does not explain the amount of heat lost or gained in the last few waves of ice, by his calculations it would all be gradual, it was not. The 11 year Sun Spot Cycle does not warm and cool the planet.
I agree with his Earth Orbit study, but not what he tried to hang on it. There does seem to be a mild 100,000 years cycle.
Geologic dating is a recent field, before that was a guess.
That the dinosaurs were killed off by a meteor has only been recently accepted. Many insisted the craters were volcanic.
A few years back it was accepted that a small atomic war would cause a winter that would last for years, these craters are hundreds of times more powerful than a bomb.
Apollo Objects were denied, now we know there are many, some large.
They are slow moving compared to us, other stuff is moving 40,000 miles per second.
The larger a comet, the longer it's period. In our past people wrote about and painted comets that could be seen in the daytime. We have not had any like that. They came, they went, they will be back.
Feathered Serpent comes and ends the age.
1 Jan every year
day 1 every month
Monday every week
1am every day
The Mayan cycles were a bit more complex, such that every day in a 52 year period had a unique name from a combination of various different cycles (similar to the idea that there is a Monday 1st January only every 7 years or so). This 52 year cycle has is called a Calendar Round. To keep track of dates on longer time scales the Mayans then had what's known as the Long Count, which provides a unique numerical indicator for each day. Mayans did not count in base ten like we did, but usually instead in base 20 (although not always). The Mayan long count can be summarized as:
#days Mayan count
1 1 kin
20 20 kin 1 uinal
360 360 kin 18 uinal 1 tun
7200 7200 kin 360 uinal 20 tun 1 kactun
144000 144000 kin 8000 uinal 400 tun 20 kactun 1 bactun
The name for a Mayan epoch apparently translates as 13 bactuns, which you can see is 13*144000 days or 5125.26 years (roughly). There is actually some minor disagreement over when the current Mayan long cycle started, but it was probably either August 11th or 13th 3114 BC, which means it comes to an end on either Dec 21st or 23rd 2012.
As I mentioned above the Mayan calendar was designed to be cyclical, so the fact that the long count comes to an end in Dec 2012, while having some significance for the Maya as the end of a great cycle (much like we celebrated the millennium (incorrectly as it happens) on Dec 31st 1999), does not mean that the "world will come to an end". It's actually true that there are Mayan names for periods of time longer than 13 bactuns, so that their calendar doesn't even end then, and even if it did there is no evidence to suggest that they (or anyone for that matter) have any special knowledge about the end of the world.
There are however a lot of theories knocking around the Internet which use the end of this calendar cycle to predict the end of the world. They often also mention the fact that Dec 21st is the winter solstice, and that the Sun on the solstice that year is "aligned" with the plane of the galaxy. On the winter solstice, the Sun always has a Declination of -23.5 degrees, and a Right Ascension of 18 hours, but exactly where this is on the sky relative to more distant stars changes very slowly due to the "precession of the equinoxes". We have a posted answer explaining this effect but how it's important in this answer (and how it was first noticed) is by the fact that it moves the position of the equinoxes, and solstices with a period of 26,000 years in a complete circle around the sky westward along the ecliptic. So the position of the winter solstice moves 360 degrees in 26,000 years. That means that it moves 360/26000 = 0.01 degrees a year. Defining an exact boundary for the plane of the Milky Way is tough, but it's at least 10-20 degrees wide across much of the sky, meaning that the solstice can be described as being "in the plane of the Milky Way" for 700-1400 years! To put it another way, the winter solstice that just past (2005) was only 0.1 degrees away from where it will be in 2012, a distance smaller than the size of the Sun itself (which is about 0.5 degrees in diameter). In any case the Sun crosses the plane of the Galaxy twice every year as we orbit around it, with no ill effect on Earth.

A bactun is a bit over 5000 years long, a long cycle is not 26000 years.
There are also longer cycles: piktun, kalabtun, k'inchiltun, and alautun.
Dec 21 2012 is not the "end of the cycle", it is the end of the 13th bactun, and the start of the 14th bactun.
Picking out meteor impacts on a 26,000 year cycle is neat, if you didn't exclude every impact that did not fall in between.
As for major extinctions, the Universe is a hostile place, that's all.
The Sun Venus cycle starts with the day and month One Reed, 52 years later the cycle of days is done, and the next starts One Reed.
The Long Count, is one hundred cycles, 5.200 years.
Five long counts = 26,000 years.
26,000 years, One Precession of the Equinoxes.
"any case the Sun crosses the plane of the Galaxy twice every year as we orbit around it, with no ill effect on Earth."
Duh, The Earth crosses the plane of the Sun twice a year, the Sun crosses the plane of the Galaxy every 35,000,000 years.
So the Mayan had the best calculation of time from the 52 year round of days, to the measure of the Precession of the Equinox.
What meaning to:
'when the current Mayan long cycle started, but it was probably either August 11th or 13th 3114 BC, which means it comes to an end on either Dec 21st or 23rd 2012."
That was one Bactun, this is Thirteen Bactun, this shows the start of time keeping as being from 67,600 years ago.
As an Age, Sun, is 26,000, and this is the end of the Fifth Sun, why does time keeping start in the middle of the Third Sun?
The only thing that stands out is humans finding a way out of Africa, discovering the new world.
So maybe they had 15,600 years of history when The Forth Sun ended 52,000 years ago, as documented by Barringer in Arizona, another as large in India, with odds that four out of five hit the water.
What was that? gets documented, we entered the Serpent's Mouth, the dark part of the Milky Way, then Boom!
26,000 years later, back in the Serpent's Mouth, Boom!
It is from this time that that Marduk, a god who happens to visit every 26,000 years, and Feathered Serpent, a god who happens to visit every 26,000 years, start.
Both the Surmarians and Mayans counted in sixties. The result is our second, minute, degrees of a circle.
Of course there were no Mayans, not for another 15,000 years, with the same math and stories. Their count of days and cycles match the Sumarian.
Ages end and begin in the Serpent's Mouth.
Feathered Serpent comes, and brings Thunderbird, who flys down to nest, it's young flying back into space. Same as the Phoenix story, a bird of fire, makes a big nest of fire, it's young flying back into space.
It does seem there is no intelligent life at Cornell. While they use Minutes, Seconds, Degrees, and the old measures, they are a new race, first time around, and are sure their god created the universe in 4004 BC.
Their view of facts is lies of the natives, or something their god left to test the faithful.
Name some major meteor craters that are not on the 26,000 cycle.
The 14th Bactun will start on time, and the Universe is a hostile place.
I will be holding a 14th Bactun One Reed party to welcome the God.
His passage cleanses the world, and the Sixth Sun looks good.

The above screed contains not a single valid astronomical or physics-theoretical assertion. Not one. It is total nonsense.
