And I am not talking about a solar cell here and a windmill there. I am talking about the energy equivalent of a Rooseveltian New Deal executed throughout the European and European continents.

Be careful what you wish for. Anything the government gets into, it will screw up royally (or federally). The Roosevelt New Deal was a failure. In 1937 the economy was in the same bad shape as it was in 1933, in fact unemployment was higher. The man who got the U.S. out of the Depression was Adolph Hitler, not FDR. It was preparation for the coming war in Europe and not the New Deal that ended the Depression. The Depression of 1893 which was as deep and nasty as the "great" Depression of 1932 ended faster with virtually no help from the Fed. Whatever the government touches turn soft, brown, sticky and smells bad.

Think of our Space Shuttle. A vehicle design to government specs. It can't go to the moon, it has only thirty tons free board capacity and pieces come off of it whenever it travels. It has killed two crews and the cost per ton in orbit is 1000 times more expensive then the liars at NASA promised. That is what a government rocket ship does. And this is the best run government program. More typical is the government handling (or non-handling) of the Katrina disaster. The man in charge, Michael Brown, a political hack appointed by George Bush was a leading expert in Arabian horses. Your government at work.

The ratio of hoof glue to horse was all wrong. The Arabians never adhered properly to the levees.
