I personally use a macbook pro for most of my work currently, I am very familiar however with Linux use. I've found OS X to be a pleasant experience on the whole. I enjoy very much the level of integration between the mac hardware to the software, it feels like a more complete product in the end to me, also the unix compatibility and utilities make it an excellent choice for getting work done. Its like having a Linux box except I actually have native compatibility with various evil proprietary software and various hardwares when I want it or need it, not that this is a drawback for Linux, I dont expect it to run anything not intended for it, but it presents a problem to me now and again.

I would choose Mac OS X because it's Unix-based and it maintains itself. I don't care how fast/bug-free/secure Windows 7 is compared to Windows XP/Vista. It is still Windows, and its glory ends when you stop comparing it to other Windows. 7 is just Windows arriving at the point that most Unix systems have already been at for 10 years. The people who say it's good are the people who have only used MS software. I don't care how good it is compared to XP. It has a crappy command line and you can't do $hit with it, so it doesn't appeal to my geeky side.

Quite possibly the only thing more obnoxious than Apple's official advertising.

Apple's advertising isn't obnoxious! That video is, but then, it's a parody, why so serious? :P

I agree, that after the sickness known as "Vista", Windows does seem to have made somewhat of a recovery. However, it is now officially at seven... and that seventh age...

I prefer OSX, I do a lot of ssh to linux systems and a lot of unix-system-development, and I really like being able to use all of my favorite development tools, pretty much right out of the box. If I didn't have access to OSX, I'd chose debian, vector, red-hat, or ubuntu though.

I'd rather have a Sun, running OpenBSD.

The SparcStation 20 was really well designed compared to a PC, so it's a shame that like everyone else, Sun ended up changing to the PC internal design. PC expansion cards are badly designed, having the connectors on 2 adjoining edges. In the old Suns the SBUS expansion cards have the external connectors on one edge, and the SBUS connector on the opposite one, so they can be cooled by air flowing right across the card. The whole system is cooled just by having air flow from one side of the case to the other, becasue the memory and CPU coolers are aligned to make use of it too (something not often seen outside of 1U rackmount servers). Then there's things like being able to get dual CPUs, 4 port network cards, and a pair of SCSI hard drives, all in a case so slim they called them pizza boxes, back when PCs had 486 CPUs.

OpenBSD is my favorite operating system, because the developers do their own thing, really well, without bothing trying to compete with the other operating systems by adding features. It's written from the ground up to be the most secure OS there is, and because of that, it is coded to a higher standard than any other OS, and is easier to maintain.
