I use Red Hat 9 on my machine at AOL HQ when I'm at my desk.

Used to for desktop use, but not anymore. I'll leave the reasons (other than the one below) for the next time someone starts a thread bagging open source, although, I develop open soruce stuff.

Simply find it easier to get stuff done in OS X, and Windows does me fine. I have Ubuntu and FreeBSD running in VMware server to test out any daemons which only work on Linux/BSD.

My "Narrow, Intense Interest" was/is computers, and I found I spent too much time fiddling with them (which I naturally did in Linux). I bought an old, used Mac to replace my PC a while ago, and now find that I simply get more work done on a Mac, because for the most part, it just works, and there isn't much you need to fiddle with. The amount of time I spend on a computer is decreasing, and the amount of productivity I accomplish on a computer has increased, which is a good thing for me.

I plan on putting Linus on my computer soon. Can anyone recommend a good distro to use for beginners?

Hi I think this is my first post :D
I use Windows Vista and before that longhorn,
The reason I don't use linux is because the programs I use have no compatibility with any linux, Plus I'm a Microsoft Beta Tester on Connect,
I am also very satisfied with Windows!

Fedora Core 4. I don't use it that often because I can't get my crappy chinese modem to work with it, and I'm just too lazy to learn something new.

Only one i have used was Knoppix on a bootable CD. Was good though. I would try other distros but not sure if all my hardware, pnp devices and software are compatable.

I'm downloading Fedora Core 5 as I type this. I think I'm going to dual-boot my system. I'm keeping Windows for gaming purposes, but Linux is something I've just got to try.

For the beginners here, I've been reading up on Linux distributions lately, and the most user-friendly versions I've seen are Linspire and Xandros. Of course, these distributions aren't free, as they come with comapny-developed software as well as tech support. But if you want free, you could try Fedora Core 5, although I'm not sure if it's as user-friendly as Linspire and Xandros.

No.

Life is difficult enough trying to fit in. Windows is used by over 95% in South Africa. Windows Visual Basic is the most productive development tool.

Not yet. If I get a laptop in college, I'm going to take a crash course in the OS and use it.
And for those who like Micro$oft:

I use Kubuntu and am quite proud to not depend on Microsoft.

Apparently you've never used anything else because Linux was developed for programming, and you've never heard of Wine, Cedega, or Crossover.
