I'm impressed with your knowlege of tube audio, Fogman. I love my tubes, but I'm not a tech at all. I've cloned a Fender amp and put together a few kits, but my first scratch built PPP amp is not yet finshed. Maybe by the end of fall ...
Thanks, I'm not particularly technical with it either, I've just picked up the knowlege due to the fact that I play guitar through a tube amp, and this type of knowlege is kind of a prerequisite if you don't want to get screwed over by people less than scrupulous people who call themselves 'guitar amp techs'. -- I've been burned more than once on stuff like this.
I would like to get more involved with it, however, I'm completely useless with a soldering iron.
I'm currently playing through a Seymour Duncan 100 watt Convertable amp, or at least I was until the filiaments in the cheapo Russian 5u4g rectifier died. I'm currently waiting for my replacement ( used Sylvania 5u4gb ) to be shipped to my doorstep. -- From the looks of it, it appears to be from the late 60's, early 70's.
To find out more about the amp that I have, check this out, it's a fairly good resource, and I also think I may have helped sourt the man's serial # dating scheme out.
