Do they exist? I heard this radio personality make a passing comment about how they just came out with the world's first quantum computer. He goes on to say it doesn't use the binary system at the base of its operations.

I googled, but it turns out he's fulla it because I can't find anything. Or is he?

I want to know if the Quantum computer exists or not. Thanks for all the discussions of this topic.

Barely. The most complicated q-bits built so far can compute 3 x 5 = 15

A physicist named Seth Lloyd already made the first quantum computer, a real one

So you say. Please provide a reference.

Reference means a refereed article in a professional journal. You Tube presentations do NOT count as scientific references.

Did you even searched for it? If you don't then do not say it isn't real.

All of the references in the journals which I have read pertaining to quantum computers indicate that it is far from feasible technology at this point. There are no practical quantum computers nor are there likely to be any in the next few years.

I read physics, math and engineering journals. I do not rely on you tube kiddie shows.

I tend to doubt everything until I have seen the mathematics and the data.

Here's an e-print of a journal article written by Seth Lloyd:

http://arxiv.org/abs/quant-ph/9908043v3

Note that Lloyd's work is theoretical. It does not mean that we have the technology to build quantum computers.

My point exactly. Quantum computers are consistent with quantum physics but there are no practical quantum computers capable of replacing conventional electronic computers.

Thank you for the reference.

Quantum computers will probably give birth to AIs. For all we know, the human brain is a quantum computer.

@rpcarnell: Interesting point about the brain and quantum computers. I had never thought of that.

I do not know much about quantum computers yet I came up with a, very theoretical, idea: Use a optical lattice-type quantum computer but instead of qubits use what I call "quterits, mixing Catuṣkoṭi Logic with quantum mechanics instead of Boolean logic, as I like tetrapartite logic (I even use it in my speech.)

Does this actually exist as a physical device or is it a scientific speculation.

You are the one claiming it is real. Back up your claim properly.

From the article in Wiki it does not seem to be any more general than propositional logic based on the Schefer Stroke.
