Two things at work here:

1.) Poor physical design of the actual earpieces will cause pain due to poor fit

2.) Frequency response of the actual driver on cheap headphones has peaks in the 2-10 Khz range to simulate 'Extended HF response', which will also cause ear fatigue.

Hi Fogman
Thank you for explaining.
The new ones are really nice, also for listening to Wagner.

Does anyone have either Wesc (esp. Oboe) or Skullcandy headphones?

At work in the office there is a lot of noise, but I don't think wearing earmuffs would be a good idea. I thought I might get headphones and pretend I'm listening to music. I can't really listen to music while working because I get distracted and stimmy...

I don't know about Wesc headphones, but all the Skullcandy ones that I've tried sucked. They were cheaply constructed and had rise in the HIgh mids @ 4-5Khz that made them harsh sounding. --What you want are Monitor headphones, like some of the ones listed previously in this thread.

My sister bought some Beats headphones several months ago. They were very comfortable in my ears, isolated the sound amazingly well, and I actually noticed a difference in the sound, it had better basses or something.

They costed 150-200$ I believe. That's way more than what I'm willing to spend in headphones, sadly, but you might like them.

EDIT: So you already bought a pair lol. Well, hope you enjoy them!

Bose, Skull Candy, and Dr. dre (beats) are all overpriced.

If you want something cheap then you want Koss brand, for all price ranges Sennheiser is the best

Bose is the well known headphones brand so they charge more

Skull Candy and Dr. dre are going for style
