But I also do it from time to time. Mostly when I do not have access to Wi-Fi.

I would have actually done this with my phone, but my provider locks the bootloader. --I found this out after I rooted my phone, and did a few minor mods. The first couple worked well, but the last one wound up wankering my phone. Luckily it was a cheap one that was replaced easily enough.

What phone were you using?

Well, congratulations! Here most people with phones I know can do that, but they usually buy them without a plan, so those phones don't tend to have the same restrictions that carrier-bought phones do.

On another note, I'd like to point out that the term "illegal" is not being used right. I'm pretty sure using the data plan that way breaks the TOS. But that doesn't mean you're doing something illegal, although it does mean there could be consequences like the plan being cancelled and some kind of penalty being applied; I've read of cases where civil lawsuits are involved.

Yeah, I suppose "illegal" was used incorrectly. It isn't like law enforcement is going to be knocking your door down for tethering. They'll probably cancel your plan and also mark your phone with a bad ESN. That's about all they can do, from what I've witnessed. I've never been bothered for tethering, since I rarely use massive amounts of data per month.

Congrats on that!

I have been trying to get a Nook to hook into my Motorola Droid Razr Maxx with either Bluetooth or WiFi and no luck, just frustration.

I tried, BlueVPN, Barnacle, and Easy Tether, no luck. I have rooted the cell phone, but I haven't tried installing whatever that is on xda-developers site.

Thanks. :D

I've heard that Azilink, the VPN/tunneling app I'm using for my USB tether, can be set up for Wi-Fi, but you'd still need the android development platform tools (adb to be specific) and a version of OpenVPN on your Nook to make it work.

By the way, in case anyone was wondering, I managed to fix the problem with the network resetting every 30mins through a specific set of procedures when I set up the connection.
First I disconnect the phone from the USB, then I run adb with the phone disconnected, then I reconnect the phone, turn the Azilink service on the phone on, run adb again, then run openvpn with the using the Azilink config file.

Generally speaking, unless I actually use the phone the connection won't reset on it's own.
I think the key is running adb with the phone disconnected first, though I'm not really sure why.
