I eased into networking by meeting people online first and interacting for a couple of years, but, everyone proved as nice in person as they were online, so I gradually got past my biggest blocks.

Can't help it after my experiences.

To be honest, I get on better and more naturally with my colleagues than I ever did in any of the contexts I was subjected to outside of work.
There are good people everywhere, but, they don't communicate like me.

Speaking of! Just back from another networking event tonight. Had a delightful time. Small group. Toward the end, I was asked to answer some questions about social media in the construction industry. Lol, got to talk about twitter and forums et al.
