Here's some better pics of my iridium (Ir) ingot. It looks like a standard metal, but it's density (in grams per cubic centimeter) can give it away. The only metal with a similar density is osmium (Os) (I do not own any osmium ingots at this time). Iridium's density is 22.56 g/cm^3 and osmium's density is 22.59 g/cm^3.

A few days ago I returned from a week long family trip to the mountains so my minerals collection developed a bit.

This is what I found in a mountain stream:

Lots of amethysts:

And lots of different kinds of quartz:

I also bought some:

Pure quartz:

Cactus quartz:

And an interesting Agate (I like the "lightning" pattern in it):

The pure quartz is a tiny thing - just about 2cms long - so it was not expensive at all, one of the cheapest things in the minerals shop: 3PLN (about 1$) and there was a lot of them to choose from at that price. It seems to be the most common trade mineral in this area(I was in Szklarska Poręba in Poland but the same thing can be bough in pretty much every city in Polish mountains) and it is called "kryształ górski"("mountains crystal"). I bought 6 of them but my mom already spread most of them around the house because she believes they act as "antiradiators" of electronics so this is the only one I managed to keep in my collection, lol.

The Agate price was the same(3PLN), it's about 1,5cm wide.

The Cactus quartz was a little more expensive: 6PLN. It's also 2cms long but it's more rare than the pure crystals. There were only 2 to choose from, the other was for 10PLN(same size, just a bit more sparkles) but I decided the cheaper one will do.

You have Alexandrite!

I've got a few mineral samples, but nothing serious. Used to be a Geology Major, got halfway done before I changed to Com Sci.

I own small pieces of: red jasper (Fife red jasper), blue spotted dolerite (Preseli bluestone), green marble (Connemara green marble) and black-speckled brown serpentinite (Cornish serpentine); as part of my collection of Celtic stones.

I also own small pieces of Trinitite and an oriented individual Sikhote-Alin iron meteorite.

Nothing else, otherwise.

Of the many kinds of marble, I've found Connemara marble to be very interesting. I really appreciate the color combinations and patterns associated with that specific marble. I own a sample of Connemara marble (in tumbled form) and it remains one of my favorites.
