Apple wins: Adobe kills flash this January...
As an animator, I sigh with relief.
Flash was as horrible to use as it was unstable-oh-so-unstable, and saving a project always meant enough time for a cigarette break, -but it was there ten years ago, and so it pervaded arts colleges, and then small studios. But only because people had learned how to use flash in college doesn't mean there's not a dozen other packages out there that are better and so much more user friendly.
Knowing my colleagues, they will keep computers with flash running until 2037, but I'm happy to hear we can finally move on to software that was actually designed for the job.

I am interested in art and animation. We have the Adobe cloud over at my house so it's nice that Flash/Animate comes with it. What other animation software do you like?
Pixelbased: TVPaint.
It looks as french as it is, but apart from button design, the GUI is highly customizable, and it comes with everything you'd want from an animation tool.
Vector based:
Toon boom, although, frankly, the rigidity of the GUI is a pain. It's cluttered, ugly, and annoying. But it's definitely highly distilled and made for its purpose.
Unlike flash.
But I'm realizing after reading up on it, that actually the animation-portion of flash, the bit that has not seen any change (and I mean this) since it was still macromedia flash, exactly that part is the one they decided to keep. .... I bet they won't redesign any of the horrible funcionality, but will give it some dashing new looks and rename some buttons and sell it for twice as much.
