It's from about 2010 so it's really slow. It's an ex school laptop. From back in the days when schools issued actual laptops instead of just iPads.

I use the X230 for first person shooters like Half Life 2 because I find the trackpoint works really well for those games.

I've got a T60 running Slackware. I bought it for fifty bucks a couple of years ago, maxed out the RAM, replaced the battery, and swapped out the HDD for a SSD. It's a great little machine, and I wish Lenovo still made them (albeit with modern specs).

I acquired a Thinkpad obsession last summer, and have now ended up with 12 of them. Needless to say, it's more than I can handle and most of them get very little, if any, use. The best bargains I got on ebay were a T42 for £9.50 and a T40 for £1.99 (original bidder dropped out), both of these machines being manufactured in around 2003-4 and working perfectly.

My oldest one is a T21 from about 2001, running Windows 98.

These are interesting laptops. The biggest annoyance is getting decent batteries for them. Most of them seem temperamental, and even a fairly new battery will only last 60-90 minutes on one of the older machines.

I just got a CalDigit TS3 Plus thunderbolt dock adapter for my P1, it also works with my Dell ultrabook & *work* workstation. If I feel like it sometime I can run a GPU on the other side of that on Thunderbolt too. It's really nice having double 4K displays using the touchscreens on the PCs.

Is anyone else here a fan of the T20/21/22/23 Thinkpads? I've got three of these things, but they are only marginally usable these days because of the SSE2 issue and the inadequate RAM. Still just about possible to run Windows 7 on a T23 though.

You'll probably be wanting one of these: https://xyte.ch/thinkpads/x210-x2100/

I've just had the dreaded Southbridge chip desoldering issue on my T42, which is a terminal event for these machines. Good job I only paid £10 for it.

3200USD was a STEAL for my P1 too! I'll probably be extending the warranty though.

That's my oldest Thinkpad, an IBM T21 from around 2001. It's got one or two cracks in the case, but it's still in good working order. It came with Windows 98, but I've put in a spare hard drive and installed an 'unofficial' (ahem) customized version of XP, the so-called 'Black Edition'.

An awful lot of programs, including web browsers, no longer work in XP, and of those that do, not many will function on a machine like this with its antiquated processor (not being able to handle SSE2 instructions being one of the main problems) and low RAM (512 MB max). It also has no built-in wifi, so I've used a PCMCIA Cardbus device, which works really well.

Despite all this, I've found older versions of Firefox and Chromium which perform okay on this, but the best browser is the little-known K-Meleon, which seems ideal here. I've even found an old version of Malewarebytes, which scanned the operating system and kicked a couple of suspicious entries out of the registry.

Obviously I'm just using this out of interest and for fun. I wouldn't dream of using any of my passwords on it, or logging into my online bank account, etc.

I was left with this IBM 600x some time ago after the owner decided
to buy something new rather than have it repaired.
At the time I put Windows Embedded POSready 2009 on it as it had
extended support to 2019.
It's still in working order but I've never felt the desire to use it.
