You seem to have accidentally ordered two DVD drives?

Also, obviously by mistake, you have ordered Vista.

I'm a little concerned... if you haven't been able to get your existing machine to work, I doubt that you will find it easy to get this new machine to run. You may be lucky. I hope so.

One is a DVD-ROM, the other is a DVD Burner; makes it easier to copy things.

And no, I did not order Vista by mistake. Like sparkman said, I am going to take the plunge. :)

The copying... I think you'll find that most copy programs want to copy to your hard drive first, anyway. Otherwise they can have trouble reading one drive and writing the other. You may get buffer overruns, and finish up with those "pretty coasters" instead of a copied disc.

Re Vista. More problems seem to be surfacing. Have fun beta testing it for Microsoft. They need your help.

The copying may work better since both drives are made by the same manufacturer, LG Electronics.

It should not be that long before MS comes out with a Service Pack for Vista; in the meantime, I do have an extra copy of Windows XP Media Center Edition, so I can just run a dual boot system. :D

You can also pull the old Sata hard drives from the old machine.

Yeah, I was planning on doing that already, especially since I have some user data on one of the hard disks that is very important to me and I will make an attempt to save that data.

They are actually PATA disks; the hardware in this old PC is older than you think.

I'll try and keep you guys up to date on my build process here in this thread. So far, I have most of the parts already; they came in yesterday. I just do not have the processor, hard drive and speakers. Which for right now, those parts appear to be in South Carolina, according to UPS tracking. They are supposed to be delivered sometime tomorrow (11/15). :D

Oh, and btw, this PC will be my very first build, from scratch, that is! Yay! :D
