Ubuntu.

2,370 packages installed. (Out of 23,474 available.)

Which incorporates pretty much everything everyone else mentioned.

But I do have the medibuntu (libdvdcss, Google Earth and Skype), VirtualBox and WineHQ repositories added.

And, beyond what is available directly via repository, I choose to use SeaMonkey with extensions, including AdBlock Plus and GreaseMonkey along with a couple of scripts.

For Linux/BSD, I would cite KDE 4.0. It has pretty much everything an average user would need. And also:

Binutils
GCC/G++
Make
Perl
GLibc
Kernel sources
Opera

Other than obvious ones mentioned, I just about need Geany and Python. And I use dropbox daily.

If it's connected to the internet, it's gotta have Firefox with NoScript. I also gotta have either OpenOffice or Microsoft Office, I don't really care which. I also gotta have some sort of IM client, a DVD ripper, a good converter, and a decent photo editing program.

Just kidding.
