Yes, yes it is. Dare I say it - Internet Explorer works better on Mac OS 9 than Mozilla.

When Firefox eated up that much memory, it was version 3.0.x and before Mozilla sorted out the memory problems. Which is said to be the images used are uncompressed into memory and stored there effectively. (that's from memory, so if could be slightly inaccurate)
