I think it is the name of a maxipad already.

I guess I should have known how little imagination Apple put into this device when I heard its name. Of all the names they could have given it, iPad has got to be the worst.

It took them all these years to figure out how to make a tablet PC, and all they could come up with was an iPod Touch XL? Unbelievable.

Apple fails epically, this is more of a competitor to a kindle than the tablet mac we wanted.

It sounds like an MP3 player that doubles as sanitary protection.

The Microsoft Courier looks more interesting, but I doubt that'll be out anytime soon, particularly since Ballmer is heavily promoting Windows 7 tablets presently.

First of all, the chances that apple would ever allow a VM app in their appstore are incredibly low. Second, the whole idea to run an incredibly heavy OS as windows 7 on a VIRTUAL MACHINE on a ONE GHZ device meant for mobility is so excessively ret*d that it would make Steve Ballmer cry.

You can't judge a processor by it's clockspeed alone, that's just not how it works. There are more factors to consider, and since you don't know the specifics of the A4 chip being used in the iPad, you can't comment on it's speed.

Sure I can, I just did and I will take your post as a dare to further doing so. We already know plenty about the processor: The iFad cannot multi-task so it is safe to think the processor is optimized towards that single-task scenarios . It is also meant for mobility and to save energy... and uses an architecture different to what vista 7 is built for. There, I just mentioned a couple of things that make it very unlikely the processor would actually survive after running two operating systems at the same time, specially considering how one of them is freaking vista7 being run in a virtual machine, since even the architecture is different it will have to be a fully interpretative VM, which lowers the chances even more... Moot point though, regardless of what we know or not about the processor's ability to run windows 7 in a VM, even if it could run it, apple would be completely opposed to it.

The fact that citrix, a supposedly serious company is working towards it is... nauseating.

Funny, since the iPhone 3G - the one with lower specs than the new iPod touches - was hacked to run Windows 95 and Windows XP, and my iPhone 3GS multi-tasks very well despite not being designed for it...

i read an interesting engadget article...

according to some credible sources the ipad firmware confirms that ipad 2.0 should be awesome :D lol , unfortunately (imho) ipad 1.0 is somewhat lacking.

apple tend to release reduced capacity (read: partially crippled) devices and then improve them with firmware updates or minor (yet expensive for the end user) hardware revisions... i refer to the iphone debacle with point to point navi restriction until quite recently, sub standard 2MP camera with no video on the 2G and 3G, and lack of copy-past until recently...

interesting therefore to note the microsoft courier tablet...

i am keen to see how long it takes for the microsoft courier to launch. also, to see what hardware features are included and what the software capability is... but then ms have the upper hand, they can sort of take their time... they know exactly what cards their competitor (apple) is holding as far as hardware... and apple have released the ipad software developer kit (sdk) so anyone can run out sims and poke and prod to work out what secrets the firmware may hold - as indicated by the above linked engadget article.

maybe ipad 2.0 will be the one to watch... eta should be about mid next year (lol  ) and i am hoping that the fujitsu lawsuit means that apple change the name! :thumleft:
Why are the pictured so askew? If you can make them perpendicular that would be swell. What is the use of having things askew anyway? It only takes up more space.
