In reality I picked up a systems , network admin job with minimal experience, and desire for that field. I was working as a developer, gofer at a company. The previous sysadmin was let go due to his lack of doing anything. I ended up being shoe horned into the sysadmin job and have been at that for a year and a half. I would love the job if it didn't also include help desk support.

Developing software/programming is not the same as being in IT.
