I suppose so, but for now I'd much rather focus on studies. I'm happy with just being a local celeb for now :)

In most of my pictures, my expression is undignified. I can write nicely, but have to parse my words, not to slur my speech. My posture has been criticized, and I see reflections of myself, walking funny. If you're not seen as being credible, in the outside world, it doesn't help to be accurate. Children and profoundly-retarded people say things, which just so happen to be true, but nice, beautiful, preppie people find it annoying or eerie. Prioritize self improvement, if that is a legitimate need.

He's most likely suffering from active psychosis and talking gibberish. The best thing to do in this case is to encourage him to seek psychiatric treatment.

All the courses in mathematics that I took earned me either a grade in the 80s or 90s percentage. So I guess I could be considered a 'mathlete.'

But what about rapid mental calculations? Have you tried to do large mental calculations mentally? How well are you doing at them?
Many mathletes are actually pretty bad at academic math, but they do very well when it comes to doing rapid mental arithmetic/memorization/etc.

Not that kind of one! I am more into things like partial differential equation, real analysis, Fourier's series, vectoral calculus etc.

A real mathlete is someone who has scored high on the Putnam Examination or the Math Tripos (that is at Cambridge University in England). Also talk to someone who has competed well in the math olympiads.

Arithmetic skill has its uses, but it is not the true measure of mathematical talent. A first rate mathematician either has to be able to solve difficult problems or create new mathematics or resolve one of the famous unsolved problems such as the location of the zeroes of the Riemann Zeta Function....

Read the thread title. It's out mental maths clearly, not just maths in general. FYI I also have a bunch of awards for maths and have always been considered to be the best at maths wherever I go, I have no equal.

Heh, I can appreciate the boast, a little interesting to have a mathematician who talks like Muhammad Ali.

Anyway, Mental Math can be learned, Arthur Benjamin is one to follow. I think it suggests that the subconscious mechanism for mathematics is combinatoric and/or synesthetic in nature. He discusses combinatorics, hearing the answer and visualizing the process.

I had a lot of difficulty in school, showing my work or believing that the method shown was the only proper way of doing things. Virtually all of Arthur Benjamin's lessons jive with my take on elementary maths.

Maths is one of the only areas where I must be top and actually feel like I have meaning, so forgive my competitiveness. Most other stuff and I'm quite happy not to be.
I have watched AB to see how good he was, and in the video I watched he got something wrong. Talented nonetheless though.
