OK. Try Safe Mode with Networking and then see what happens.

What do the back/forward buttons look like? And what operating system are you running?

You may want to check for updates as Microsoft released a large amount of those on Patch Tuesday. And go to this site for a scan (while in Safe Mode with Networking):

I just updated. I'm going to try this. Where do I go to find Safe Mode? And it's Norton 360 I'm using.

IE h as recently had major security breaches. Run malware scanners (Norton AV, since you have it, plus Spybot S&D which is a free download) and try firefox or opera, then make sure you have the latest security patch for IE before going back to that if you end up preferring IE over other browsers.

I would suggest crippling IE through Group Policy and registry settings and using Opera/Firefox and completely dumping IE. Some of the major security flaws have taken over 10 years to patch, and it is likely to be the case for a long time to come. With Opera and Firefox, you can expect patches within 1 month, often much less than that.

I'll just stick with IE and keep out of the sites who crashes my connection.

Thats no good. You go there because you like them. Persistence will lead you to the problem.

The only way I can solve this problem is by getting a new browser, but Vista is worthless anyway, so I'll just live with the problem.

Then secure it.

I don't care what country they're from - they're stealing your bandwidth, whether intentionally or unintentionally. They need to learn.

You don't need Vista to get a different browser. And the issue isn't just not being able to visit certain sites because they don't load well, it's one of IE making your computer vulnerable to remote exploits and loads of malware and such that McAfee won't always pick up on. If you like IE and want to stick with it, fine, but be careful about your security.

What you can do is restrict your router to providing access only to MAC addresses you tell it about. The MAC address is the number built in to each computer that is difficult to fake or change.

Of course, you then have to prevent other people from logging in to your router and telling it that their MAC addresses are OK. That's where paswords, WPA, not broadcasting the SSN come in.

I'm having a brain fart...what's the DOS command to get your MAC addy?

You can use whatever browser you like, but the script kiddies and hackers go for IE, because it's so ubiquitous.

Actually, I tried your link, and immediately got 'page not found' (or as I call it, Club 404...;)

When I was setting up my laptop (finally), I could detect 3 wireless networks, and logon to 1 of them, within a few minutes. A lot of people just don't know any better, thankfully you're not one of them.

I don't know your layout, but if there's 1 connection, and 1 computer, wired would work fine. I know you can get up to 100' cables in some computer stores (you're limited to about 600' if I remember correctly...;), in a variety of colors. You can also get wired network routers fairly cheap.

It could also be that the site you're trying to get to is just having a bad connection. You might try to contact the site about the problem, maybe they or their ISP could figure out what the problem is.
