If you are thinking of buying a Mac, check out the "refurbished" laptops at the Mac store. They are new, but had some sort of glitch out of the box, were repaired, and come with the full new warranty. I think there is about a 10% discount on them. I bought one several months ago and haven't had any problems with it.

Now you REALLY need to explain that one, as in reality, it couldn't be more opposite.

Yess Apple...there goes one of your points why you are petter then PC not everyone thinks like you

Just different preferences I guess. I agree that Mac isn't laid out all that well, but I don't think Windows is either.

Apples smuggness also really puts me off

Is that because they're better than the competition? Yes.

Actually not really. They lack the price, power, openess, and individuality of a PC. I take my oc watercooled core2 extreme with dual graphics over anything MAc comes with anyday

The attraction of a Mac is more from a software perspective (though Apple hardware is very high quality). Most non-Mac computers these days come pre-loaded with Vista, which is a completely worthless piece of s**t. OS X is much, much better.

I picked up a MacBook about 2 years ago... as a machine to produced music on. I still use a PC with Windows XP as my 'main' computer... which is mostly for gaming/web surfing/music storage.

I'm very happ with my Mac. I use the music production software Logic, and it is the main reason why I'll continue to use a mac. I wanted something that would work seamlessly with the hardware and software. I've had too many weird driver problems on the windows side that I wanted to avoid by getting a mac. I wanted a self-contained quality music making machine... and that's what I got. It just so happens that it can do lots of other great things too.

There are many industries where Mac software and hardware is the standard... I now see why. It's horribly annoying to be interrupted while you are trying to do something creative.

The mac isn't perfect though. First is the price... I got a good deal on mine because I bought a refurbished low end model and beefed up the memory and hard drive myself. At the mid range to high end models, the macs are pretty expensive. You get a quality machine... but there are fewer options to get the most 'bang for the buck' experience.

You have to do things the mac way. And sometimes the mac way isn't the best. I find Itunes really annoying to use... it's much too bloated and convoluted. The finder could be more usable... I hate that it defaults to listing files as icons. Give me lists! I wish I had a right click button... I know the workarounds... but it still bothers me. The computer gets really hot... and it seems like they sacrifice some heat gain for aesthetic reasons. I worry what happens when the fans start to get really dusty.

And I do hate the Mac "image".

Macs aren't always easier to use for some people. I helped a friend who was fully used to the way windows worked... and he got a mac... expecting it to be very easy to use. He seemed frustrated that it wasn't set up and just different than windows. You need a bit of an open mind about how the 'system' works.

If there is some specific 'tool' you want to use on the mac... then I'd say get one with no question.

PCs don't work properly, they get viruses, trojans, adware, spyware, all kinds of crap. Even if you have a firewall and anti-virus some of these things are bound to get through.

Plus, the registory means that the computer becomes sllllooowwwwwwwwerrrrrrrrrr and slllllllllllllloooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwweeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr everytime you install a program on it.

Windows is just poorly designed crap, Vista even more so.

Get a Mac.

Which is why never, ever use Vista. XP is less miserable, but in terms of security it still sucks ass.

Yeah I know of these options... I still like a right click anyways. In fact most of the time I use a bluetooth mouse (mircosoft actually... ) so I get the right click on that.

I do love the two finger scrolling. I often am working the track pad and the mouse at the same time. Mixing horizontal and vertical scrolling is just so much easier with that system. I look forward to when I upgrade (many many years down the line) for more multitouch options.

Oooh... that's just what I wanted. Thanks. I searched for this option... for some reason it eluded me...

Thanks! :thumright:

Yes, actually, it always has.

Just face it - you've got nothing.

now with PC vendors making their own OS flavors it'll be interesting to see how the Windows brand ¿diludes?
