Yes, and yes!

By the way: here's A BIG SHOUT-OUT TO MCalavera for helping me check my computer behind the scenes and put my mind at rest!

*grabs MCalavera and gives him a great big hug* <------but I made sure it was a gentle one. That way, he won't feel it until tomorrow when he wakes up. It's still night time in Australia.

Thanks. I knew I felt something warm and cozy last night while I was asleep.

Anyway, next tip:

Know which forums to go to for free help with virus/malware issues.

Three forums I recommend are:

Bleeping Computer
Geeks to Go
MajorGeeks

Why do I recommend the above three?

Because, in those forums, only those qualified are allowed to help you out with your malware issues. And it's one helper at a time, not zillions of them with contradicting amateurish views. Yes, I'm talking to you here, all_white. The forum you go to is not a good one for such problems.

Besides, there, they have you run the real scanning tools like OTL, GMER, and so on.

MajorGeeks for the win!! !
Thank goodness you didn't list Microsoft Answers~
They're as little as no help at all.
Rarely they're helpful.

That would be the next tip ;)

Whether online or offline, don't ever rely on Microsoft to help you out with your computer issues.

Oh dear. A public telling-off!

From now on, I will get my answers here, MCalavera. Those forums sound as though they might be "Geek Only" forums. Are you sure they wouldn't sneer at someone like me, who doesn't always know all the terminology? The only one I recognise is Bleeping Computer. Not that I have an account there, but it's come up in my search results before.

Of course they won't (at least not in your face). You and your likes are the reason they exist in the first place.

Format should always be used as a last resort.

Here, where I work, I always make sure the computer's Windows issues can be fixed without having to resort to format. Most of the time, it's successful (around 95%). But a few times, format was necessary. This is something major compared to other local computer stores in this area where format is actually encouraged in almost every case.

And they charge more for format, too.

EC: sorry. Terminology = special words. Sneer = laugh at, tease, bully. :(

As if I enjoy working in an office, lol. No, I work in a computer shop. With customers coming in every now and then ...

You know it's an Aspie dream come true.

True, true.
When I was 13, my dream was to be a Animator.
Well... Now I can make Flash Animations, I can make clones of myself in videos, and even do really great sound effects.
