how do I keep a company from getting wind that I have a product of theirs and sending a deactivation routine to my computer disabling the program?

The program in question is Adobe Photoshop CS4 and I've got a lot of working cracks but every time I open the program, it'll tell me the key has been blacklisted. Obviously I'm sending some information to Adobe that I'm not aware of and I'd like it not to.

By not using pirated software.

In this particular instance, try the Gimp if you are unwilling to fork over the cash required for Photoshop.

Nothing's stopping you from building on GIMP and making it better. The source code is available. Or, if you find it unsatisfactory and aren't able to make it better, you could choose to pay for the proprietary Photoshop.

For people unable to write code, Photoshop is the only good option if you're looking for a standardised image editor. --Of course there is the bit about the price of current versions of that software. Look for an older version of Photoshop. You may not be able to do as much with it as you can with a newer version, but at least it will be cheaper.

I wish there was a way to send back something that would make the worst virus ever infect companies that do that sort of thing.

Not everyone's a computer expert. Some of us were only shown how to turn the damn thing on in the last few years. And not everyone is willing to pay the ridiculous ammount they charge. Death to the ESRB, MPAA and RIAA! Every member of those organizations should be tortured to death. Intellectual property is a stupid idea. Everything should be public domain within a couple years of being invented.

Not true at all.

I often use Corel Photo-Paint 7 which I got for about $20 about eight years ago. They're up to version 13 or so now but since V7 does everything I want and is designed to operate on an old OS (Windows 95/98) it's blindingly fast on XP.

There's a lot of other freeware around - not just the Gimp.

There's paint dot net if you like the .NET framework
or
There's photo editor (http://pho.to/editor/).

I'm sure that the gimp is just as capable as photoshop once you learn how to use it.

I'm not willing to pay the ridiculous amount they charge for a Mercedes-Benz. Does that mean I can just go steal one?

Your opposition to IP is based on your own greed and nothing else. If you don't like the price, do without or find a cheaper alternative.

How so? It runs sleeker than photoshop on any machine I've used... not to mention it's more adaptable and less bloated (the latter of which is probably why it's sleeker)...

You download pirated sortware, and you can't find a working copy of the most pirated piece of software on the web.
:lmao:

Gimp isn't photoshop, people get used to whatever interface they like.

I'd like to be able to use such an image editor. The most I do is just edit some screenshots with cropping in standard paint. I would like to do some serious editing to photos other than basic effects such as sepia, black and white, 16/256 colour effects... I'd like to do something SERIOUS...

Can't you block the program with the software firewall?

Is there some type of WP rule about discussing methods of breaking the law?
