My mom is running Vista with AVG free edition. Recently windows keep on saying that it is turned off. I tried to turned it back on on my mom's account it is still off. What can we do?

Try restarting the computer. If it is still saying that AVG is off, go to the AVG website, and attempt to download AVG again. If it goes alright, you can then delete the old file. Hope that helps!

When did this happen and do you know if Vista SP2 has been installed in recent updates? I downloaded and installed SP2 last week and my AVG was out of order until after a reboot.

step one, remove AVG entirely if your using the free version. The free version is missing active scanning so you have to schedule scans to get anything, plus it isnt updated as much as what I am about to suggest to you.

If you want a free system I highly reccomend Avast! antivirus

AVG is only disabled when the tray icon (if you have it enabled in the system tray) is greyed out
