Hello. I have been having trouble with a friend's Laptop that I use when over at thier house. This started with the screen going blank, then either pulling me of line or freezing me on the page. I also get 'Error' messages, saying problema with disk files, and 'unable to connect with server' also when trying to close 'tabs', they re appear, knocking me off page.I am 'self taught' in working with the Computer, and have not figured out yet 'how' to fix a [Bad file/ Disk] I have tried 'Deleting' bad files and ended up deleting information I had saved on a USDA web site. What Ihad done wrong, Ihave no idea. Any idea Guys? Iwould Appreciate it, Thanks. :?:

Sounds like malware. Viruses, trojans and spyware.

And if that's the case <AVG> or <Clamwin> may be of assistance.

There are lots of software products that scan for and delete viruses. If the computer is running Windows, it probably has Windows Defender, so you can use that. If the OS is completely disfunctional, or if you are having trouble getting anything to work, you can get a live CD or other bootable device with an operating system on it and boot off of that. Insert the disk, turn the computer on, and hit one of the F keys (you might have to experiment with this to find which one) while it's booting. This will bring you to a menu that asks you where you want to boot the operating system from. Booting from a disk will give you a clean, uncorrupted OS to work with.

Sometimes you need to reinstall the operating system. And if nothing else works, you can boot from a disk into a temporary OS, back up all your data, erase your hard drive (this can be done by typing "format c:" at the command prompt) and then reinstall the operating system. You have to be extra careful when doing this, though, because it can lead to data loss. It is, however, the only 100% failproof way to get rid of malware. That's all the advice I can give you. My knowledge of computers and computer troubleshooting is not complete, but I know some of the more common sense stuff like what I just told you.

Sounds like malware. If the laptop's backed up, wipe it and reinstall the OS. If not, update all anti-virus and firewalls then do a scan.

To prevent this from happening in the future, buy a Mac.

Yes, Mac OS X is the only way to get everything you want from an operating system. Linux has problems with animation and software and hardware compatibility; Windows has a really inefficient interface, gets viruses, and constantly pesters you with updates. Mac is the closest anyone has ever come to a perfect OS, in my opinion. The only problem is Macs are more expensive; that's the only thing keeping more people from buying them.

I dont agree with you about linux, but lets let that drop. I have something more interesting in mind.

It suddenly occurred to me that having a small customer base allows apple to give better customer service. Dropping their prices would flood them with idiots. Apple users arent known to be that adroit, but that might be because its so easy to use.

They do have excellent customer service. Just the other day I went into the Apple store (MacBSD alerted me that my battery needed to be serviced) and they immediately handed me a brand new battery for free.

I hear you are an above average fisher. I meant the apple users that have trouble baiting.

I have been sorting and organizing and setting up my Louisiana corner of the world here, and today I came across an old Apple mouse you can also have for free if you might ever happen to need one ...

Thank You, I've written down the Instrucciones concerning 'wiping' the Laptop, and reinstalling the OS. Iwill see if this fixes the Problems, If this doesnt work, then I willupdate anti-virus, and firewalls, and set up scanning the system. I have 'Windos' and agree with You, this has a horrable interface, but Ihad No Idea this was prone to 'Viral Attacks! At this time I am extremly short of money due to Lack of work, but will scout around for Price ranges on the 'Mac OS X' this will give me an idea of how much money I will need to put up to perchase it at a future point in time. :)

Okay, but don't erase the hard drive if it's your friend's computer, unless they are okay with it.
