With 460+ movies, I was thinking of ripping and storing them all on a HTPC to watch them with so I don't have to bother with all the dvds, as well as free up some space. But I was wondering, is there a way of doing it so they could be launched from either Mediaportal or Windows Media Center with their main menus?

Also, how much storage would you say I should get assuming a new DVD is added to what I already have every week or two?

I'll probably continue Googling away to find the answer myself even after posting this, so if I do, I'll post a reply letting you all know. :)

To do that, you'd be better off, just taking an image of the disc and get a virtual disc manager to play it. The other solution would be to rip all sections so you can play whatever. Subtitles, I am not too sure about in keeping

There is a program called 1ClickDvDCopy that will rip DvDs, giving you the option of simply ripping the movie, or keeping the extras, menus and subtitles, depending on which (any or all) you choose.

Thanks for the help. :D

I was able to rip some dvds with their menus and get them to work in MediaPortal.

Surprisingly, it still worked in it's original form as VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders grouped in a parent directory. Until I tried it, I was assuming I'd have to make them into an ISO and mount them like Keith said. They're a pretty large file size though 7.5-8 GB each meaning I'd have to get about 4 TB of storage. :o

Guess I'll search Newegg for HDDs...

Really? Wow. That's... um... wow. There should be a compression option. I'll come out for a moment and admit to downloading movies, however 95% of them are something I do already own, it's just a digital back up, MPAA. Even the ones that are full DVD rips, menus, subtitles and everything, are only 3-4Gb's at a MAXIMUM. 8Gb's is just crazy. That's what you'd see in a full HD blu-ray or dual-layer DVD rip, not a five year old copy of The Day After Tomorrow or something.

I never use MediaPortal before, but I guess this program just help you drag the video_ts off the dvd, so you get the large files. I'd suggest ripping them and convert in into the Matroska container (MKV format). Look for software like iskysoft dvd ripper, etc.
