My boss from work just recentely gave me an eMac G4. Has the basic 800MHz G4 Cpu, 384MB Ram, 40GB Hard Drive and so on. It currentely has OSX 10.2.8 on it and I want to upgrade it to Tiger. (OSX 10.4) My friend let me use his OSX 10.4 but it is in .dmg files. I tried burning these image files to CD on windows but that won't work. I tried changing the extension to .iso but that don't work. I need a fresh copy of Tiger on this machine. Any help.

How is an OS in .dmg form?

You might try copying the .dmg files onto the eMac and running them from there. Maybe it's an upgrade version of Tiger or something like that?

If you decide to put Linux on it, I can point you towards an xorg configuration that should work in Debian (I had some fun with on my iMac g3).

Its probably a pirated copy. If you still want to use them, you're going to have to find a way to burn them on a mac. While its possible to do it in windows, I can tell you from experience that its simply not worth it, because there is so much conflicting info out there that you might as well save yourself the bad burns by getting an external USB cd burner.

I transferred the files from my friends G5 in his backup folder. Since the Apple Store don't mess with anything older than Leopard and the latest version that will work well with a G4 is Tiger. The backup CD's were saved on his HD as .dmg.

Finally figured it out. The 1st Disk had incorrect image settings. I completely converted the 1st disk into an iso. (The Bootable one.) I am now doing the install and is currentely on disk 3. Thanks guys.
