Ubuntu on Averatec All-In-One Nettop

One of the people I'm living with as a Averatec All-In-One Nettop that he got from Sams Club not too long ago. Has the Intel Atom N270 @ 1.6GHz, 1 GB PC5300 DDR2 Memory, 160GB Hard Drive and Windows XP. He wants to set up a 80GB Partition for Ubuntu. However it gives errors before It even gets to the Setup GUI. Any Help!!

Possibly a problem with the cd rom drive?
