Recently I've been searching for an add-on for firefox which would allow me to download videos in flv format from a mulitude of sites.I'd wanted to know what others use in terms of firefox add-ons for this purpose as such?

Sincerely,

Well, if you use GNU/Linux, just wait for the video to download full, go to /tmp, find the file (it should have a thumbnail of it in most desktop environments), copy it to a folder, open the folder in the terminal, install ffmpeg if you don't have it and type 'ffmpeg -i put the filename here put any file format here', on the small chance that ffmpeg doesn't support that file format, try another. I shall make a video.

Or he could just use VLC player which is crossplatform and support an large list of video and audio formats as well as streaming and DVD/VCD playback.

I use the Firefox add-on "Download helper" to grab flv files from sites without needing to play them first.

Free Download Manager is brilliant for pulling down all file types - it can also handle broken downloads and resume them - this is a must have for me since I only have dial-up - I've successfully downloaded files of nearly a gigabyte over the course of several weeks, broken into lots of pieces this way!! !

Free Download Manager is good for queuing up lots of files and leaving them downloading overnight too. VLC player as already mentioned plays flv files. Ideal for YouTube or whatever. I use VLC player to listen to mp3 files and even play DVD movies. Brilliant bit of freeware.
