I have some videos on my comp that I would like to cut parts/scenes out of. I've tried using Windows Movie Maker but it keeps locking up & crashing. I'm not looking to do anything fancy. I want something that's simple to use & NOT decrease the quality. I mostly want to cut things out of vids but it would be a plus if it can play things in slow motion & allow me to seek non-seekable wmv files. If it would work on audio-files as well as vids that would be nicer cuz some songs have a lot of silence at beginnings or ends but I could always get a music editing program instead. Does anyone have any recommendations for programs that are free or fairly easy to pirate :?:

Are you on Windows 7? Because I heard windows movie maker for win7 is not as good as previous versions, so if you are on win7 find a way to get an older version of movie maker. I've heard of people getting the old version so it's somewhere.

It's likely a driver or codec issue. Is your GPU driver up to date?
The version of WMM that comes with Vista used DirectX to accelerate the effects, so your display could be the reason. You can also try the older WMM 2.6 from this M$ page. It's an unaccelerated version that works better with weak GPU.

I'm using Windows7 64bit. I forgot the mention my OS when I made this post. Everything is pretty up to date. I've tried to use Movie Maker a couple times when I was using my XP system & I couldn't get it to work & gave up after a couple tries.
I tried bootlegging Final Cut Pro a couple days ago. It took a day or so to DL but it's all in Mac format.
I looked up Avid & their site mentions a few different products Media Composer & Pinnacle Studio.

I looked at Avidemux & the file is 32bit installer. Is there a 64bit version :?: It seems to be only 32 on their site

It should run fine; I'm pretty sure Windows still includes 32-bit compatibility layers.
