I'm tired of seeing all these ads for Bing that say things like "Bing will tell you the best thing to do tonight." or some $hit like that. Microsoft is treating it like it's some sort of AI that can read your mind and predict the future, when all it really is is a slightly modified rebranding of Google.

Maybe telling us what to think will be a future development of that basic engine.

Something on Bing hijacked my homepage and would not let me change it.
I deleted all reference to Bing in my files and regedit, then I could change it back.
I stopped using Bing - plenty of other search engines out there.

Did you use any ad blocker? Somehow I don't see them often. Or perhaps the sites you visit are too M$ affected? :lol:

CloudWalker - I have ad blocker, virus, malware - the whole she-bang because of a nasty virus a few years ago.
I had not gone to any other sights at the time, just Bing, and something happened that made bing my homepage, which I did not want.

@sufi

Since LordoftheMonkeys said Bing ads, I was thinking more about ads floating around a site like Google ads. Was LordoftheMonkeys really talking about the default "home page" or the default search engine?

I've heard about M$ forcing IE's default home page and search engine to Bing last year. They explained that away as a server configuration error but I haven't heard much about that issue lately. Anyhow, I haven't touched IE for years and I advise you to do the same. If you insist on using IE, you may want to check if you have something like Bing toolbar is installed (or whatever they call it now). Live Essentials, and Silverlight as it's part of that group, contains a program call Choice Guard (sometimes called Search Enhancement Pack) that may have something to do with that too.

It's not, the algorithm is in fact quite different. ;)

Anyway, I use Bing and Google pretty much equally as they're about the only two real independent search algorithms left. Google is more of a dumb text search, Bing is a more natural relevance search. So Google is great for technical information where there could be multiple answers, Bing for maps and showtimes or rail schedules or anything where there's only one answer.

PS: I **HATE** Google maps anymore. Can't stand it. Too many addresses just aren't in it.
