Is there actually any cheap programs to make animation and cartoons?? Something like flash is £120+! !! Why on earth are these things so rediculous expensive? Believe me I am serious about making cartoons; I have an insane imagination I just want to bring to life, and I have planned loads of it. I have been drawing it out for many years. So yeah, anyone know anything that is great for this, that isn't expensive?

You could theoretically make an animated cartoon with Microsoft Paint and Windows Movie maker, however it would be insanely difficult and time consuming, as you would have to open a new file, draw the frame, save it, import it to movie maker, and so on.

If you are really interested in animation then Adobe Flash and a Wacom tablet would be worth your while.

You might check out Toon Boom Studio. It is used to make most professional cartoons.

If you're going to animate frame-by-frame, I recommend Flipbook. If I'm not mistaken, Don Bluth (All Dogs Go to Heaven, Secret of NIMH) uses it in his studio. I find it really nice for traditional animation and easy to lipsync characters to.

If you're looking to do animation with the same style (tweening) as Total Drama Island and similar, I recommend Flash. It's also good for internet animation like what is found on Albino Black Sheep.

I'm not a big expert on 3D animation so I can't help you there.
