My computer is refusing to install service pack 2

I am runnign Vista 64 bit with service pack 1. I ran an scan to find any updates none was found. Next I tried to install it directly. So I got the installer from microsoft and the computer refuse to do anything with it. How can I get it to install Service pack 2?

Try Safe Mode.
