Tor not working in ubuntu

I am very much a Linux newbie, yesterday i installed Tor/Vidalia, and today i had to restart my computer, now when i try and launch Tor i get an error message saying

Could not bind to 127.0.0.1:9050: Address already in use. Is Tor already running?

I know Tor is not already running, how do i fix this?
