Not the study of Ents (I wish) but of insects.
I'd like to learn more about it. I mean, I'm in school studying biochem right now but I've always been fascinated by bugs. Well, scratch that, I was terrified of 'em as a kid. Legit phobia - but after spending a week in a spider/beetle infested tent with about a dozen 6 year olds when I was 11 or so, I had to just deal with it and now I just really find them amazing.

I really just think they are incredible - love watching specials about the really weird ones and reading about them. I know biochem is applicable. Anyone have any idea of possible careers in this area or names of interesting people I could look up?

Entomology was a special interest of mine years ago. I still love most insects and arachnids. :-)

What, exactly, is it you want to know?

You remind me of the weeks I spent writing my notes about a spider in my home when I was 9 years old. I loved those days!

Entomology is a side-interest of mine.

I'm not sure how it all works, but one of my biology teachers who (thankfully for me) also did entomology on the side, told me the Museum of Natural History of France was paying him to bring back some specimens in the Amazon Jungle. He'd go there, lay his tent, lay a net and a light, and see what came during the night. :p

I for one, mostly dislike the bigger arachnids, but i have nothing against the smaller ones (excluding maybe scorpions). Small spiders are just so cute sometime when seen up close. :p

Otherwise i like mostly beetles and butterflies. (Lepidopterae)

He also told me, but i'm not quite sure, that most entomologists specialize in a given family and specialize deeper from there.

If you want to find more amazing stuff regarding insects or wildlife in general check the GEO HD or google for newly discovered lifeforms, you can find some pretty incredible stuff. =D And Since insects are the most populous on the face of the planet, there's bound to be some that haven't been discovered yet. In that case, you can even have the honor to name them. =P My teach said he had done that with a few bugs, named one after his wife, son and even his dog.

I love reading books on entomology / insects and finding them in my yard.
