HI!
I have a question.
I was installing a motherboard in to a computer but i zapped it with static.
I am getting a new one. I all ready have a anti-static wrist strap. what can i do to prevent this from happening again?
were best to clip the wrist strap? is there any were else static can come from that I need to worry about? i put the motherboard on a anti-static mat but don't always ground it
THANKS!

If you're installing a motherboard to a desktop PC, simply clip yourself to the aluminum chassis of the PC. You may want to touch something metal, like a doorknob, to "equalize" the static electricity in your body. If you have shag carpet or some type of carpet that is notorious for static, you will want to stand on an antistatic mat. Or you can move where you're working to a table that sits on linoleum.

I know this can happen, but Ive never had any problems [so unreasonably I think its strange that you should]

what motherboard was it? Generally I dont move about [eg my feet] too much when handling ESD sensitive computer parts and hold the devices by the edges or by plastic parts mostly

where do you buy the devices to clip you to the computer case, I really should get one because Im always opening up my computer to fit new motherboards etc into it.

That, and avoid touching the components/PCB tracks on the board - don't just grab hold of it; always handle it by the edges. Same applies to hard disk drives etc.
