I use AVG, a-squared and Ad-Aware... Not exactly all anti-virus, but whatever.

I use Avast (because it's compatible with Thunderbird) on my XP, I tried it on Vista and it worked well, and Norton Corp Edition on my Win 2000 Server.

For online scan at my job I use Bitdefender and Trendmicro.

the reason im using nortons, i learned the hard way about mcaffee(there is a derogatory word that rymes wth mcaffee) means its not worth poo to have on the computer. it killed 2 systems, a win 98 hp 8370 desktop and a win me compaq presario 1200 laptop.

AVG. I used to use Norton but the newer versions of it make the computer think too hard.

I have a friend who has avg, she thought it was best thing in world until her computer got slower and slower over time. so what she did, (she dont know much about computers) she calls for a geek squad member to come out, and does and does a scan. HE FOUND 2000 VIRUSES ON HER COMPUTER! and it was protected by avg! 8O

her internet is verizon(same as me) and I told her about verizon's etrust(computer associates) which is free. she went with and stayed with mcaffee then heard she reinstalled avg.

I wish I can help her learn more but I can only take the horse to water but can't make it drink.

I don't use antivirus as they cause more problems than they prevent. if you use an antivirus, you are more likely to be compromised by some viruses.

I use ClamAV on Linux, but not very often. Why isn't that listed?

Impossible, an anti-virus can't damage physically a computer, if you read that somewhere, it's a hoax.

It can scrap your windows (accidentally), any software can damage Windows sometime.

On linux and Os X you don't need anti-virus, but on Windows e-mail are dangerous. If your ISP use an anti-virus on his mail server then anti-virus is less required.

That's my opinion !

A few minutes after that I wrote that poll I realised that I forgot ClamAV (which I use on my Mac) but I don't know how to modify that poll ...

On linux and Mac anti-virus are almost not required.

2000 VIRUSES = Possibly 2000 files infected by a couple of viruses. And it was maybe spywares too, in that case AVG don't prevent spywares.

Around 50% of my clients who got viruses on their computers have an anti-virus, some of them, the viruses definition is not update at all, some of them update once or twice a month, etc ...

When you do like that, anti-viruses can't do his job.

If you use Thunderbird for your mail, AVG doesn't scan them, except if you install a special software.

I do not use an anti-virus and I have not had any problems so far. I use Mozilla Firefox when on the internet and I think it is safer. Also I dont check email so I dont have to worry about clicking onto a virus from that.

I took the liberty of installing AVG Free edition on all the windows boxes in the house today as they had no antivirus software on them, just AdAware, so they still had vunerabilities until I did a scan on both machines and found to my surprise that no viruses were present, very lucky if you ask me

My Linux boxes are lower risk due to the fact that there are a lot less viruses written for linux than there are for windows, so no antivirus runs on them yet

I have never used AV protection on windows. The only problem that I've had was a program that loaded a trojan, but this was in 1998. Also, I have only been using webmail for the past couple of years.
