Lately I have come to the realization that I will need a new system. I will probably get at least a 3 G CPU, 120HD (at least) and either a Nividia 6600 or a 7950. What do you think?

Most pertinent question that comes to mind is the same one I ask everyone I've ever built a machine for. Namely: what will you be wanting it to do?

I don't know about you, but I like to run multiple applications, so I think I can never have too much memory.

What I want the computer to do is to be at least able to play Battle for Middle Earth 2 and essentially what I want the computer ro be used for is gaming and also school work.

Hello,

I suggest you:

Motherboard Asus P5LD2 or P5B (more $$$)

Processor Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 (2.13 Ghz) or at least E6300 (1.86 Ghz)

Core 2 Duo are faster than Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz

Hard disk Seagate 250 Go (SATA2) 16 Mo Cache (5 years warranty)

Power Supply Enermax 420W or 485W (Both are NoiseTaker) or ThermalTake

2 x 1 Go DDR2 (PC2-5300) Kingston or OCZ (more $$$)

You should avoid Maxtor Hard Disk, Corsair Memory and Noname power supply

Use what will be the older computer for school work. And buy a well balanced high end setup for gaming. Match fast and alot of system ram, good video and audio card, and a 10000 rpm hard drive. Do some research on how to run windows in low process mode for even more speed. You can make windows run with about 7 process, can even use a smaller faster replacement for explorer. You can in most motherboard bios tweak the key board refresh for what I think feels like better control. Hardware gets more resonable in cost with each passing day. :D
