what amazes me about this is that it took gamers a grand total of 3 weeks to solve something scientists have been working on for decades

Gamers had fewer "rules" standing in the way of their imaginations. Scientists are more bound to fact. The Gamers are inclined to play. Perhaps it would be useful to imagine 12 impossible things before having breakfast.

yet the mass implementation of human intuition beat the hardset way of physics, if not with elegance and substance then with enough brute force to make the work of the scientists a lot easier.

it could be fun to compare the performance to the Fold@Home processing cloud

I was just about to post this.


What's really incredible when you think about it; just try to imagine what would happen, in this economy, for as many adults who are living at home without enough money to do much more than play video games, if major hospitals put together cash awards of $500,000 for anyone who could come up with cures to major diseases. We'd probably have twenty or thirty years of progress in less than a year!
