Why is it when I try to use unetbootin to install my Trinity ISO it says: Operating system not found.
I have had a ridiculously bad luck cycle today with my PCs (Almost broke 2 [Data wise] :wall:).. So Im pretty fed up, any one know an easy solution?

What is your setup and what, exactly, are you trying to do? Not all BIOS support booting from a USB mass storage device.

Oh god, sorry I did not explain that properly at all.
Im trying to install my Trinity Ubuntu ISO to my USB stick thats formated as FAT. Unetbootin copies it over perfectly.
It says it was a success.
But when I try to boot into it with my netbook, it says : Missing operating system.

Unfortunately that most likely means your netbook can't boot from a mass storage device. If that's the case then probably the easiest thing for you to do is to boot the netbook from an optical drive connected via USB. A possible alternative would be to use something like Wubi, but I can't really say whether it would work as I've never tried it.

First, is the BIOS set to boot from USB?

Will the netbook boot up from any other OS on a stick? If not, it may be something about the netbook.

Another thing which can go wrong here - and has, for me, many times - is that even if the machine will let you do this, and the image is fine, and the process works perfectly, some brands or specific models of USB stick just will not work this way. And it is the brand, because I've used Unetbootin, and I've used the particular flavour's installer option to install on a USB device, and always run into trouble with certain sticks, but never with other brands or models.

You are correct. I totally forgot to mention it but I've also experienced this.

  Sorry, my head is rather cotteny.
It has always booted fine from USB.
What can I do?
I have tried setting it to be priority on boot.
I have tried directly booting into the USB stick.

Okay, then it isn't the netbook itself that is the problem. Has it ever booted successfully before from the same brand and model of USB stick?

Yep.
I have used it for the same purposes before.

Assuming you've used the same stick you're trying to use now before, we've ruled out the netbook and the stick. (If you've used another stick of the same brand & model, there is a small chance this one could be defective. But that isn't too likely.)

Perhaps you ought to try downloading another image file, from an alternate mirror. Install that using Unetbootin, and see what happens. (Image files do get corrupted, sometimes. Unetbootin is not perfect at identifying this.) No guarantees, but the only way to fix anything like this is to go through the steps and eliminate the most likely problems - or fix them... which is what we're hoping for.

Ok, thanks for your support!
Il redownload it at some point.
I might even use an alternative from Unetbootin.

I just tried to get Unetbootin to work with PC-BSD, with no success. I did get it to work with Fedora 16 live USB 32 bit, but with one problem. The live stick acts just like a live DVD only faster. You can't save any changes to the system because it goes back to default.

The quickest way to see if you can boot from the stick is to remove the hard drive and then plug the stick in the computer. Even if USB boot devices are dead last, it will boot the USB if the machine is physically able to do so.

As for myself, the Fedora install is on a 16 bit Sandisk pen drive.

I did get PC-BSD to run from an external hard drive in a cage. I installed it from a DVD, plugged the external drive in and then chose it as the installation target. Since I boot from the USB first, I control which I use by turning the switch off or on.

This is known as TFE or KISS to all the gear heads out there.

I too have had the same issue with Trinity, and ran into a bunch of dependancy hell issues when trying to install via .apt repositories. --I believe that the ISO file is corrupt.

Furthermore, Unetbootin doesn't work with any of the Solaris versions either. --I believe it works with Linux only, though I may very well be wrong.

If you were trying to install individual package files from Trinity into a current distro then yes; all hell would break loose.
I'd guess you'd be doing something close to the equivalent of trying to install a Windows 95 GUI onto a Windows 7 installation.

How well do the instructions here work:
http://www.trinitydesktop.org/
They seem to be aimed specifically at the current distros and there are even pre-built setups available.

As stated above, the Live CD ISO Image was corrupt. The install instructions were followed for Ubuntu 10.04, which is what I was running at the time, which led to the Dependancy hell. --Currently running Debian Squeeze, and have NO desire to try this again.
