Hey!
I have two great machines.
1:
My Zotac ZBox running Kubuntu 11.10
2:
My Sony Vaio NW11S

Now here is problem number one which relates to my Zotac.
I have upgraded from 10.04 which worked beautfuly, but now I have upgraded to 11.10, the boot time takes forever.

Now here is another annoying problem, this one relates to my Sony VAIO:
When I boot it takes even longer then the Zotac.
I cannot install video drivers as it just comes up with an error, then a directory to the logs (Bloody thing! GPU drivers never work well with it, although it did work fine back in Mav Meercat.).
Its driving me up the wall. Im more bothered about fixing my VAIO right now if im honest.
Thanks.
PS:
My VAIO after attempting to install GPU drivers now wont boot into the GUI. Woopdydo.
Also:
Sorry about the anger, but I have had it up to here with Linux acting up.

How many kernels do you have on each machine? -- If you're trying to use a later kernel, you may not have the Graphics Kernel modules installed on the Later Kerne, and this would most likely be causing your problem.

Well the VAIO has a fresh install of 11.10, so I assume 1?

I don't know what graphics chip you have, but with NVidia chipsets, you have to have the NVidia Kernel module, as well as the NVidia Xorg Server up and running. If you can get to the desktop, you might want to select the Graphics Metapackage via Software Center or Synaptic, install, and reboot your system. -- I believe it works much the same if you have an ATI/AMD chipset as well. and then tweak the driver interface from there. --This will probably be placed in the menu 'System' submenu 'Administration'

I have a AT Mobility 4570 from Sony which makes using generic drivers a nightmare. You cannot install them unless they come from Sony, although it worked fine back in Kubuntu 10.10

With ATI graphics, you have two options:

1) The not-so-great open-source drivers, or

2) The not-so-great closed-source drivers.

Try the other one.
