Questions about Iphone4s
How many of you have an Iphone? I just got mine yesterday and I'm still learning how to use it. I prefer the basic phones, (no way to check emails, download itunes, download facebook, etc) but this is ok.
Questions.
1. Do I need to turn off the iphone when charging to wall or computer?
2. When I go to itunes on computer (I downloaded the latest version) I have Windows Vista too, not a Mac. I don't sign onto account, but how come I can see songs that I purchased?
3. Can I still purchase Itunes songs on the computer and then sync to Iphone? So now I don't need Ipod nano anymore since I have Iphone. But then again the nano is way smaller than Iphone. I have the nano 3rd generation.
4. I see an itunes icon and music icon. When I tap on both I can navigate to the itunes songs. So there are two ways to listen to music?
5. What is this Siri? Sounds like some computerized voice of lady. Do I need to download stuff?
Basically I wanted one since its upgrade and the latest. My phone bill will be around $80 a month now instead of the $60. I have Verizon Wireless. I used to have Sprint, but since I use the metro to commute into DC to work, I switched to Verizon Wireless since they work underground. Not sure if Sprint does now. I think Verizon Wireless and T Mobile were the first companies to work underground subways. I can check hotmail account if I'm at grandma's house since she has no computer.

1. Do I need to turn off the iphone when charging to wall or computer?
No. There is no need for anybody to turn it off completely. The only time you would ever shut it down completely is if there is some error that has occurred that may be rectified with a full reboot.
In case you didn't already realise, pressing the sleep/shutdown button will toggle the phone between sleep and wake states. The phone is still on in both of these states, though sleep state requires minimal power. Turning the phone off/on requires the sleep/shutdown button to be held for a few seconds.
2. When I go to itunes on computer (I downloaded the latest version) I have Windows Vista too, not a Mac. I don't sign onto account, but how come I can see songs that I purchased?
iTunes will show not only media that has been purchased via iTunes but any media that is stored locally. If you purchased media from iTunes at an earlier date, then downloaded it onto your system it is now locally stored and iTunes is showing you the locally stored files.
You only need to sign in to iTunes for purchasing new media with your account or redownloading files that you've prior purchased. You may also need to sign in to view video files bought via iTunes. I do not have any video from iTunes so I am unable to verify this but there is additional DRM on video that is not present on music files so this wouldn't surprise me.
3. Can I still purchase Itunes songs on the computer and then sync to Iphone? So now I don't need Ipod nano anymore since I have Iphone. But then again the nano is way smaller than Iphone. I have the nano 3rd generation.
Music that is purchased over iTunes has no DRM. You are free to put it on any device you want.
The first time you plug your iPhone into your computer whilst iTunes is running, or turn on your iPhone if it is running iOS 5.0+, it will ask if you want to register it under an existing iTunes account or create a new one. You will want to register it under your existing iTunes account so that you can keep all your purchased media consolidated in one account.
4. I see an itunes icon and music icon. When I tap on both I can navigate to the itunes songs. So there are two ways to listen to music?
Music purchased via iTunes is DRM free, so you can listen to the files with any media player that is capable of playing AAC files. If you have multiple media players installed on your computer then it wouldn't surprise me if they are all capable of playing the files.
5. What is this Siri? Sounds like some computerized voice of lady. Do I need to download stuff?
Siri is a voice controlled assistant application. You can access Siri by either holding up the phone to your face whilst it is awake (this method of activation is togglable in settings), or by holding the home button down. You can use Siri for basic queries that you would type into Google or Wolfram Alpha. You can use it to call upon functions of other apps such as asking for the weather. Or you can ask it to add appointments to your calendar or tell it to remind you of things at certain times. If you are in the USA it has some additional functions such as asking for directions to specific locations.
If you intend on using Siri you will need to remember that for the most part you will need to talk slowly and enunciate well. It doesn't matter too much how you phrase questions/commands. There is no need to download anything to use Siri, as it is preinstalled as part of iOS 5.0.
