Where can I buy software for my laptop? (UK only)
I don't do online shopping, so that is out of the question. But I've been looking everywhere and I can't seem to find any software for laptops or computers, like Microsoft Office Word (the latest version), which is really annoying when I need to open up an attachment to an email and it won't let me on my laptop because I don't have a Microsoft Office Word.
Everywhere sells Xbox and Nintendo stuff, but life ain't all about GAMES, and almost everyone uses computers these days so you'd think you would be able to buy stuff for your computer in a shop, along with the other computer accessories I DO see in shops. I mean, they sell CDs (loads of them in HMV), but most people can find songs online and download them on to itunes and on to their iPod, but they still get sold in shops. So why don't they sell software for computers???
And I am not downloading anything off the internet for free. I've learnt my lesson, after I downloaded something that looked safe but ended up having some file that corrupted my whole computer and I had to get a computer technician out to get rid of the virus, costing me £70 or more. And yes I am up to date with Avast antivirus.

Well I finally found what I was looking for in WHSmiths, which is Desktop Publishing, and it has everything I need on it for my computer. But when I tried it, it wouldn't install. A message just keeps coming up every time I try to install it, saying ''Cannot be completed because this file contains a virus''. I checked to see if it is compatible for my computer, and it is. It says for Windows 7, and my computer is Windows 7. So now I've just brought something I cannot use. Why does technology have to be so complicated? I thought that if I brought something from a shop, I would be able to install it on my computer. I didn't know store-brought software contained viruses. I'm really disappointed now. Can anyone tell me why's this?

I use GNU software which is well established free software that will not f*** up your computer. More specifically I am a Linux user. Even if you are not a Linux User, there is plenty of free software that is will work on a windows system, and allow you plenty of productivity.
Libre Office is an MS office replacement, and it will allow you to save in MS office formats. Also there is GIMP, which is an Imiage Manipulation program that is similar to Adobe Photoshop in results. While GIMP was originally released for UNIX, and UNIX-like systems, there has been a freely downloadable port for Windows systems since at least 1999.
While you may have issues downloading 'free' games and such with Windows, there are many legitimate programs which are free for Windows, many of which are free alternatives for high proced programs like MS Office, Adobe Photoshop, and even some A/V editing programs such as AVID Pro and Cubase.
